While driving to work today I was thinking about something Erica Ehm said – well, something her dad said to her after a breakup: “Why do you want to be with a guy who doesn’t get you?” Which made me wonder: “Why are so many businesses working with an SEO company that doesn’t get them?”
I feel a very close connection to all of our clients at Ontario SEO and I try very hard to make sure they succeed. I am always reading magazines, watching social media, the internet, the news, the radio and finding tidbits of information that we can use to help our clients succeed. I am regularly reminded of the movie Working Girl where Melanie Griffith saves the day by paying attention to everything that goes on in the local market and uses it to get ahead.
I frequently say “SEO, it’s more than you know” and that is one of the reasons why I love my job. I love the problem solving that comes with having such a broad spectrum of clients. When clients come to us we get to evaluate what they are looking for and choose the best solution to help them – whether they are looking for more phone calls, more leads, or more sales. This is when we get to select one of the many tools and strategies that exist to make sure we come up with the right plan for each client. We have a wide variety of strategies that we use to make sure that not only we see the results but our clients do too.
So what are some strategies that you can use right now? At the 2016 National Mompreneurs® Conference I attended on the weekend, Debbie Travis shared her business commandments with the audience and there are a few that apply to all of my clients (and will probably apply to YOU!).
Embrace your mistakes. Success comes from the solutions. Solutions can be great for business! Just because you posted a blog and only one person looked at it – find out why they looked at it and figure out how can you improve upon that.
Learn from the best. Look at what your competitors are doing and see what they’re doing right and why it’s making a difference. Then, take the steps you need to replicate it and make it true to your business so that you can experience similar success. •
Protect your Brand. This can have many implications but a good place to start is to make sure you claim your identity on social media platforms. You don’t want someone claiming to be you setting up a Facebook page impersonating you. Monitor what people are saying about you AND mort importantly be authentic. You can’t be caught out if you are always truthful in how you represent yourself and your company.
Get support. In a room full of women this took on a different meaning but it is a vey powerful statement. You can’t do everything yourself. Focus on what you are good at – if you are passionate and experienced in your role, find others who are experienced and knowledgeable and let them help you. This can range from asking your mom or friend to read a blog post to make sure you haven’t used the wrong version of your/you’re, to hiring someone who specializes in websites or social media.
Internet marketing works when you know how to work internet marketing. If you simply throw everything thing at the World Wide Web and hope that you will see the results, you will be disappointed! There are advantages and disadvantages to each step and tool you use, so make sure you know what you are doing, have a plan and stay focused.
